HFM Foodservice - Maui, HI

Cold storage insulation design and construction was used for this food service distribution center.

HFM Foodservice needed a design-build team to construct a new state-of-the-art food service distribution center in Maui, HI.

Food Tech was selected for the project because of their expertise in construction management and food service distribution, which helped them manage the many complex building codes and permit regulations that accompany construction projects on the Hawaiian Islands. Food Tech worked closely with local officials to construct a highly energy efficient structure that satisfied the rigorous standards of the Island’s architectural review board.

The project also included cold storage design engineering for the distribution center’s coolers, freezer, and refrigeration dock as well as material handling design. The facility helps HFM to inventory and distribute a large number of stock keeping units (SKU) to its customers in a highly efficient and cost-effective manner.

During the project, Food Tech delivered the following:

  • 40,000-square-foot facility
  • Facility sizing and material handling design
  • Cold storage insulation design and construction
  • Coolers, freezer, and refrigeration dock
  • Industrial refrigeration system

With approximately $290 million in annual sales, HFM Foodservice is one of the largest broadline food service distributors in the state of Hawaii and has operations on all four major Hawaiian Islands as well as Guam. In October of 2017, HFM was purchased by Sysco Corporation, a multinational marketing and food distribution company with over 300 distribution facilities worldwide.

Food Tech has performed design-build services for HFM on multiple projects in the past. The companies have worked together for renovations, re-slotting, expansions, and new facility projects all across the Hawaiian Islands including Oahu, Maui, the Big Island, and Kauai.
