Southwest Traders, Inc. - Stockton, CA
Faced with growing demand, Southwest Traders, Inc. (Southwest Traders) needed to increase the refrigerated storage capacity for their network of food service distribution centers in Northern California. Food Tech was selected to use their cold storage construction expertise to convert existing ambient warehouse space into a 12,000-square-foot freezer for Southwest Traders.
Food Tech began the design-build project by demolishing the warehouse’s existing concrete floor in order to replace it with a new heated and insulated foundation featuring freezer floor design engineering. Insulated wall and ceiling panels, as well as a cutting-edge Freon refrigeration system, were then installed to help ensure the freezer operated as efficiently as possible.
Additionally, the freezer’s new structural storage racks incorporate rack supported building design, which provides support for the structure’s ceiling panels and refrigeration. Food Tech’s material handling technicians helped increase order-selector proficiency by slotting the racks to productively store a mix of fast, medium, and slow-moving items.
From start to finish, Food Tech competitively bid at the subcontractor and supplier level, which helped provide Southwest Traders the lowest prices in the marketplace. During the project, Food Tech delivered the following:
- Cold storage construction and design-build services
- 12,000-square-foot, box-in-box freezer
- Structural racks slotted for increased order selector productivity
- New heated and insulated floor as well as insulated wall and ceiling panels
- Freon industrial refrigeration system
- Competitive bidding at subcontractor/supplier level
