Food Tech was able to provide material handling design and facility sizing services for these grocery distribution centers.

As their grocery distribution network has grown over the years, SpartanNash has required a dependable design-build team for facilities across the Midwest and South. Time and again, SpartanNash turned to Food Tech for their innovative facility planning and outstanding construction management expertise.

Food Tech has built four SpartanNash grocery distribution centers across the country which, in total, cover over 1,000,000 square feet. Throughout the construction process, Food Tech performed planning studies and offered facility sizing services to help ensure each distribution center was built to the exact specifications needed by SpartanNash. The projects also feature advanced material handling design, which can greatly increase the efficient, productive flow of labor and materials.

Additionally, the four projects involved significant cold storage construction and refrigeration engineering. Ammonia refrigeration central systems were installed in each facility to enable precise temperature control for every cooler, freezer, and refrigerated dock.

During these projects, Food Tech delivered the following:

  • Design-build services featuring industrial engineering
  • Facility sizing, facility planning studies, and material handling design
  • Cold storage construction featuring ammonia refrigeration
  • Cooler, freezer, and refrigerated dock construction
  • Packaged ice making
