Harris Teeter - Greensboro, NC

Harris Teeter expanded their 200,000-square-foot grocery distribution center in Greensboro, NC.

Harris Teeter needed to expand their 200,000-square-foot Greensboro, NC, grocery distribution center in order to meet increased demand from their retail stores. Food Tech designed the original facility, and Harris Teeter returned to them for the expansion project thanks to their outstanding design and contract administration services.

Food tech performed detailed architectural design and engineering as well as cold storage engineering on the 40,000-square-foot expansion. The existing ammonia refrigeration central system was expanded, and Food Tech increased battery charging stations for additional material handling equipment. Food Tech’s familiarity with the facility’s original design helped them to expand the distribution center with higher project efficiency and lower costs.

During this project, Food Tech delivered the following:

  • Architectural design and engineering
  • Expanded ammonia refrigeration central system
  • 28°F meat cooler addition
  • 34°F dairy and deli cooler addition
  • 35°F dairy cooler (convertible to future floral coolers)
  • Rooftop penthouse refrigeration units
  • Increased battery charging stations
