Food Tech provided design and site construction management to this dairy process plant.

Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) needed a design-build team with experience in food process engineering for the construction of a new cheese process plant in Linwood, NY. Food Tech was selected for the project because of their expertise in dairy construction and history handling complex projects involving hygienic refrigeration engineering.  

Food Tech provided both design and site construction management during the project. The environmentally friendly facility is built to conform with DFA’s commitment to sustainability while also maintaining rigorous hi-care food process plant design. The completed plant totals 35,000 square feet and is capable of producing 15 million pounds of cheddar cheese annually. 

During this project, Food Tech delivered the following:

  • Design-build services including architectural and structural engineering
  • Hygienic food grade construction with hi-care sanitary provisions 
  • 10,000-square-foot cheese production floor 
  • 7,000-square-foot cold storage warehouse
  • Utilities, offices, labs, and employee amenities 
  • Annual production capacity of 15 million pounds of cheese  

Dairy Farmers of America is a national cooperative that markets and sells milk products to wholesale buyers around the globe. Formed in 1998 by four of the nation’s leading milk cooperatives, DFA now includes more than 13,000 dairy farmers in 48 states. The Linwood dairy process plant, serving western New York, is part of DFA’s strategy for the Craig Station Creamery, a first-of-its kind agricultural site facility that combines the resources of DFA, sustainable and environmentally friendly technology, and the traditional goodness of family farming.
